You will be a big beautiful shawl. In the meantime, you are a big blob of magenta!
That is what I keep saying. Lace is indeed the ugly ducking of knitting. Sometimes It takes the power of positive thinking, just to keep going. I also keep checking the pictures of what the shawl will look like when it is all done. Fingers crossed!
Even though I do not like the look of my own works-in-process, I love everyone else's. Theirs always look much better than mine. My Flickr favs seem to be filled with other's WIPS. (That and other people's pets, don't ask me why)
I am not working on blankets or socks, just my magenta shawl. I am determined to turn it into a beautiful swan. :) Hope you all had a great weekend and have some lovely works in progress on the needles.
It has been a bit since I posted some music. Enjoy!
Excuse me, I sneezed. Guess what came out? Socks! According to my bloggy friend Audry, that is what happens when I sneeze. That cracked me up, I wish that were the case! For some reason these socks seemed to have been on the needles longer than I would have liked. Still perfect timing, because these seriously purple socks will be included in a package that is destined for England to meet their new owner. Ruth had some yarn delivered to my home, that she cannot get in England. In the package she included some loves for me.
Resistance on my end was met with extreme stubbornness. :) Glad I gave in because what a treat! The sock yarn screams Rock and Roll (just like Ruth), so I am going to have to find the perfect sock pattern for it.
Want to see something super cute? Check out who Crazy Aunt Purl sat next to on the plane. Not knowing originally that he was someone famous. Love that he is trying to knit!
Love the feeling of marking something completed in the Rav queue! Today I can say that this shawl is done.
This is my first completed shawl, so I did pat myself on the back a couple times. Another first was working with Wollmeise yarn. You know the yarn that seems to be all the rage on Ravelry. The colors are lovely I agree, but enough to have people staying up till 3 in the morning for a shop update? Not for me, there are way too many wonderful indie dyers out there that have comparable yarns and colors for me to loose sleep over. Would I say no to another free skein, probably not! The yardage is fantastic (575 yards) and it does plump up beautifully after a good soak.
Next off the needles will indeed be a pair of socks. I haven't lost my love for them. I also really want to get a couple blankets completed. Want to see a blanket that will have you ooohhing and ahhhing? It is a blanket being worked on my dear friend Evelyn. Evelyn is one of those special people that make you feel better just by knowing her (you know the type). She has a great blog too!
I hope you all are having a fantastic week. Oh and before I forget my girl Ruth is having a shop update soon, so make sure you watch for it. She will be updating it with some newly dyed sock yarn-you all better get there before I do!
It is the weekend. Thank goodness, this last week has been a tough one.
My grandfather passed away earlier this week. I feel very privileged that I was able to be there and spend the last moments of his life with him and my family. I am not good with condolences, so it has been difficult to say out loud or express a lot about it. I do want to say that my grandfather was an extremely sweet and generous man, and we already miss him. The reason I am mentioning this is not because I want anyone to express condolences, but because I want to say thank you to amazing friends near and far who really were beyond there for me.
I walked away from the experience with so much. I have always admired my mother for her strength and compassion, but watching with her father was something else. I also want to send out some love to people who will never read my blog, the nurses and doctors who were as in love with my grandfather as we were. They took such good care of him, one in particular would bring in pizza and beer for my grandfather. Gratitude doesn't even begin to cover it.
On to lighter news! :) This may explain why there was no WOW Wednesday. I can't blame it all of my being out of town because part of the blame is on this shawl! I can't stop working on it. I should name it the potato chip shawl, I just can't stop. It is almost done, I have about 4 repeats of the feather and fan.
I don't know if it's the color (Ruth says it is sexy-I agree) or the pattern, but I am hooked. For someone who "claims" to have problems knitting shawl, Ruth is done with hers and it is lovely! Let me just add that she also completed her first sock. My Ruth has mad skillz!
Since I have been out of town I have been away from blogland, there was a lot of catching up to do. As usual there are lots of loves.
A big hoot and holler to Dawn who is well on her way to sock #2! I knew she could do it. Anyone who crochets that perfect, is going to be a brilliant sock knitter!
Chawne never ceases to amaze me, not only because of her endless talent but because of her spirit. I could go on and on about my serious love-fest with her, but it may come across as single white female-ish!
If anyone lives up to their name more than Grace, let me know. I realize that not everyone's lives are perfect and that we don't always post the shitty things going on, but just reading her blog posts seem to lift my spirits.
The KAL with Ruth, is in full progress. I am way behind her. She is also usuing her own handspun yarn, fabulous! The girl is flyin'! The pattern is Multnomah by Kate Elsa. The beautiful yarn is Wollmeise in Fratello that I won from Nova's birthday giveaway. I am using size 3 HiyaHiya circulars, (HiyaHiya is my favorite).
I was waiting for the perfect pattern that would show off the beautiful shades of this yarn. I think I found it. While the shawl is being worked on, I am also working on socks. Yes, I am switching back and forth between projects.
Ruth's super purple socks are almost to the heel flap. The purples and blues in the yarn are just insane, almost iridescent. They are so her! My Port Ludlow socks, have their heel and now I am decreasing for the foot.
The pattern, the yarn, love everything about these. My photo does not even come close to doing the colors in this yarn justice. It is indeed a far cry from my normal shades, goes to show you how many you love when you just try them.
Working on three projects may sound stressful, normally it would be. I have decided to take a different approach and I find it to be working for me. I am just enjoying the process of creating. I am not worrying about deadlines, I am just going with the flow. Ironically things seems to get accomplished more if I think in those terms. An inspiring movie or show always helps too.
Instead of watching the movies, I watch the Appendices. I have always been interested in watching others creative process, it motivates me. It is awe-inspiring to watch how someone can create a huge statue out of foam and make it look realistic. The craftsmanship and details that went into this trilogy are just insane!
What motivates you to create? Is there a process, a location, or a movie that aides you in your crafting?
Wonderfully simple pattern and of course the Malabrigo Sock Yarn so soft!
Finished these in time for Socktoberfest! Bonus.
Socks are indeed going to be on the menu this month. I have filled my plate with quite a few projects. In addition to the socks I will be starting a shawl KAL with my bestie in a couple weeks and I am still working on blankets!
Hope you all are having a wonderful October so far. I will leave you with Florence in honor of these socks being done! :)
This time of year Sundays replace my Saturdays as my favorite day of the week. Could it be because football season is in full gear?
Why, yes! My Denver Broncos has been part of my life since I was born. I have great memories growing up of the yells and cheers, up and down my neighborhood. I do as most football fans do, I craft and drink beer on game days. ;)
Another great happening this time of year, Socktoberfest has begun! I am participating as a way to finish socks on the needles and use up some old stash. I will be finishing up my Cosmic socks, hopefully tonight and I have already cast on 2 new pairs.
The reason for 2 is because my friend Ruth gifted my this pattern on Raverly. She has always gifted me with her lovely crocheted items, yet I have not gifted her with any knits. I decided that I would knit us up the same pair of socks from the pattern. I may very well be tired of this pattern my the end of it, but so far so good.
What are you up to this time of year?
XO
Andi
