My Sister's Knitter

She makes me look good- giveaway!

You wouldn't know it if you were to see some of my projects through out the years, that there is an actual sister behind the title of my blog. While my selfish knitting has increased, I still make things upon request (demand-heh) from the sister.

Some of you that have read this blog for awhile may recognize this scrappy granny blanket I made for her in early 2011. If you don't, that's ok because it puts my pics to shame. She makes my projects look good.

I will probably make her more granny blankets, but there will only ever be one..Marie Antoinette. To say that she was a labor of love is putting it mildly. This poor dear was knit with so many curse words it would have made a trucker blush. Alas, the sister loves her (despite her crazy eyes)  to no end, so it was worth it. Again the sister photographed her wonderfully.

This sister is wicked talented with the lense, right? Here is what all the hubbub is about. My beautiful sister is having a giveaway on her blog. That's why I'm easy...

...like a Sunday morning, that is. :)

My week has ended with some reading, knitting, watching football and cooking. 

After discovering that you can watch all the back episodes of Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie, I needed to cook. This soup is wonderfully quick and easy. Today I decided my soup needed some homemade bread, therefore there are a couple of loaves of french bread baking in the oven right now. Seriously is there a better smell than baking bread?

Nice way to end the week. Oh, and it's been a bit since I have shared some new additions to the stash.

These were purchased using a gift certificate from a friend. Don't they look soft? They are so soft. My gray lovelies will grown up to be a nice cardigan, when I decide to venture into those waters. Helping me face my fears have been friends who have gifted me some gorgeous sweater patterns on Ravelry. Who knows, if the winds are right and the stars allign...I may have a cardigan to show you in the coming months.

Bread is done baking, so I will leave you with some wonderful Flickr favs.

Falling back in love...

Despite the tantrums, despite almost giving up...I fell back in love with my Quill.

What changed? The border. I have loved working on this border, even if it took me quite a few reads before understanding the genius concept. Lesson learned, sometimes if you just stick with something, you may be surprised. As usual Jared Flood's pattern is amazing.

Helping to renew love with my Quill project is knitting on other things. After casting off these stripeys, I found myself craving another pair. I needed some purse knitting anyway.

This yarn is Desert Vista Dyeworks in the color Grunge. The name sold me. Many people my age look to the 80's as a fun time their life,  the 90's were my glory days. I loved Grunge music and the outfits that went with it. Yes, I did wear Doc Martins and the black outfits layered with a nice flannel! Oh, and I loved me some Eddie Vedder. :)

• It is no secret that I have a slight obsession with stripes right now. Therefore it will come as no surprise that I adore these from Bethany.
• I am smitten with Dr.Who and there is no better costume than this little man.

• When I need a virtual getaway, I visit this blog. The image, the life and the knits just make me feel relaxed.

The Sunday Post...

Well hello there! It is Sunday.

Look who finished her Halloweenie socks in plenty of time. They are squishy, don't they look squishy? I have already worn them around the house and these are just fantastic. I knit them in a my basic sock pattern: cast on 64, classic heel and round toe. These sock were part of a KAL for Knitabulls Sept/Oct Self-Striping and Personal Sock Yarn Club for the Traveling Sock Knitters.

Still in the KAL theme, I have cast on my October socks for The Sock Knitters Anonymous group and Solid Socks group. It may seem that I am KAL'ing all over the place, which I am. Joining in on this fun has allowed me to discover new designers and knit with yarns that have been sitting in my stash for far too long.  Bonus, I end up with some great socks at the end of it all. :)

You may be thinking that all I knit is socks, but in fact I have something non-sock related on the needles. I know, don't faint. The sister put in a request for a cowl. You can tell from the pic that the yarn is thick and the needle size 9! Many who know me, know this is not the norm for me. It feels like I am knitting with two boat oars. I like skinny yarn and skinny needles, but that's just me. Although, I can see the allure of knitting something like this, as it is knitting up fairly quick.

In the food department I am gearing up for Fall, despite the fact that it is still in the 90s here. I choose to pretend. So this weekend I fired up the dutch oven and made this soup. I have made it before so I won't share the pics. It really is a perfectly simple and rustic soup. Then..I made this pie!

 

Really...we have knitting, soup and pie, my Fall dream is coming true! If you would like to pretend with me then enjoy this song or go visit Kate for her week of leaves.
