The Green Gables kit is exactly what you would expect from little skein with a talented designer, amazing dyers, knitting accessory extraordinaire coming together to create one fantastic kit. Even more fun is that you can build your own kit by adding extras like stitch markers or the Anne of Green Gables book. I love details like this!
How about if we talk about the yarn first? As yarn addicts we know the glee that comes with having good mail days that include yarn.
The yarn that comes with the kit is from Leading Men Fiber Arts. I chose the colorway, The Haunted Wood. It is beautifully dyed and feels like a dream. By choosing The Haunted Wood colorway I passed up these stunning beauties. Let me tell you it was an extremely tough choice.
Often times when I buy yarn I don't have a clear idea what pattern I will use it for. The beauty of a kit like Green Gables is that the pairing of yarn and pattern are set for you. The beautiful design from Paula Emons-Fuessle is perfection.
Have you ever knit one of Paula's patterns? Paula has a wonderful way of including clear instructions, tips, and tricks in all her designs. Balsam Hollow is a top down shawl with a lovely leaf border. The pattern is both charted and written. I may be repeating myself by saying the amount of detail that went into this kit is off the charts, but it is the truth.
Thank you, Anne for the privilege of reviewing your latest pattern and yarn kit. Not sure if there are enough words to say how brilliant this collaboration of talents is. :)
I also have a winner to announce for the skein of MJ Yarns that I reviewed in October.
The winner is :
Midnight Orchid. What beautiful yarn!
Camilla, I will be in contact with you to get your details. Thank you everyone who entered and supported Jonathan at MJ Yarns.
Have the best day today!
