It is the weekend. Thank goodness, this last week has been a tough one.
My grandfather passed away earlier this week. I feel very privileged that I was able to be there and spend the last moments of his life with him and my family. I am not good with condolences, so it has been difficult to say out loud or express a lot about it. I do want to say that my grandfather was an extremely sweet and generous man, and we already miss him. The reason I am mentioning this is not because I want anyone to express condolences, but because I want to say thank you to amazing friends near and far who really were beyond there for me.
I walked away from the experience with so much. I have always admired my mother for her strength and compassion, but watching with her father was something else. I also want to send out some love to people who will never read my blog, the nurses and doctors who were as in love with my grandfather as we were. They took such good care of him, one in particular would bring in pizza and beer for my grandfather. Gratitude doesn't even begin to cover it.
On to lighter news! :) This may explain why there was no WOW Wednesday. I can't blame it all of my being out of town because part of the blame is on this shawl! I can't stop working on it. I should name it the potato chip shawl, I just can't stop. It is almost done, I have about 4 repeats of the feather and fan.
I don't know if it's the color (Ruth says it is sexy-I agree) or the pattern, but I am hooked. For someone who "claims" to have problems knitting shawl, Ruth is done with hers and it is lovely! Let me just add that she also completed her first sock. My Ruth has mad skillz!
Since I have been out of town I have been away from blogland, there was a lot of catching up to do. As usual there are lots of loves.
- A big hoot and holler to Dawn who is well on her way to sock #2! I knew she could do it. Anyone who crochets that perfect, is going to be a brilliant sock knitter!
- Chawne never ceases to amaze me, not only because of her endless talent but because of her spirit. I could go on and on about my serious love-fest with her, but it may come across as single white female-ish!
- If anyone lives up to their name more than Grace, let me know. I realize that not everyone's lives are perfect and that we don't always post the shitty things going on, but just reading her blog posts seem to lift my spirits.
- Lucy's brilliant scarf, had me at hello.
- One of my blogcrushes Bethany just knit up the most wonderful socks!
- Happy Birthday to a truely beautiful person inside and out.
I am off to finish my shawl! Thank you to you all for enriching my life by sharing yours and allowing me to be a part of it.
Happy Knitting everyone,
XO
Andi
I love when you finally find a project that you can't put down. I've never heard of a color being called sexy though...
My thoughts will be with you. (And it's neat to hear about the little extras that your grandfather was given... pizza and beer. Did he have a favorite beer?)

I really hate making more than one of anything...I consider it short attention span disorder...but now that I said that, I made TWO Multnomahs and loved doing both of them!

Gosh, I am sorry for your loss. It's a really deep experience that will change you as a person. Best wishes during this tough time.
I love Lucy's sense of color. I've met her for tea once and found that she is quite amazing.
And...right back at ya. :)

My condolences for the loss of your grandfather. May you be strong and remember him the way he would have wanted you to remember him. As for your shawl, it looks absolutely gorgeous! Such a vibrant color! Maybe you like it because it's not socks ;-) although socks are great!!!

I won't offer condolences since you don't want them but I will say this - I have a bottomless cup of coffee and some great Hugh Grant movies with your name on it. The haven is here should ever head down to Florida - you can have the entire upstairs to yourself.
{{huge hugs}}

Sending thoughts and prayers your way, Andi. I lost my stepgrandfather just over twelve months ago and I miss him dearly. Yours sounds like a very special man :) I'm so glad you were there for the last - you'll be glad of that forever.
As for WOW Wednesday - you were working on a WIP! Just happened to be one that you still infatuated with, rather than 'the first romance is gone' projects!!

Damn, that yarn is S.E.X.Y. Sexy Ass Yarn.
You're so, so welcome for everything, no thanks were ever required - you are my dear friend and you know that if you need ANYTHING you just have to holler.

Life is good ... and while there is always sadness and loss mixed in, you are absolutely right in that the goodness of people (friends, family, care-givers) is what matters most. I agree with Ruth -- that color is sexy!! Big hugs ....
