Could just be me, but I seem to be attracted to fall/winter colors in the summer.
Warm, rich colors seem to want to jump on my needles. Who I am to stop them?
Now it's just not the colors I am drawn to, but winter-type knits as well. Heavier shawls, socks, and cardigans are top of my summer knit lists. What an odd-ball I am.
Maybe if I think hard about the reasons behind my attraction to fall/winter knits, I will discover that it could be my way of having my dream of eternal winter. Then again, why think about it at all. I will practice what I preach and knit what I love.
What are you knitting this weekend? Nice, light summer knits? Or are you an knitting oddball like me?
Whatever you are crafting, I hope it is bringing you bliss!
XO
Andi
I'm an oddball too. LOLOL! I'm getting ready to start my wool sweater in sweltering heat. LOLOL!!! As for colour ... I go with whatever moves me at the time. With no regard for seasonal colours.
Can't wait to see your F.Os.

I'm an oddball like you - I'm working a nice shawl (my first crocheted lace) in Berroco Keltic which is an aran weight... and it's getting hot to sit under it while I work... lol. I also work on blankets in the summer - but living in Florida, it's always hot so there really is no difference.

Not just you but me too - just finished my lace shawl that I knit in worsted weight yarn. Will be nice and warm when the time comes.

Looks pretty much like my knitting right now, in spite of the horrible southern heat and humidity. We will be well adorned when cooler temps come, right?
( I am even using almost the exact same color as shown in your first pic!)

Because winter is coming . . .
You're not alone and you're not an oddball! This time of year, shops are getting Fall colors and yarns in -- it's the perfect time to start thinking about cold weather knits.
Most importantly, though - just knit what makes you feel good. :-)

Well--if you visit my blog you will see that I am knitting a shawl--a heavy shawl--out of Shepherds Wool! :) I love winter knits too--and I think by knitting them during the summer, our mindset might be that if we knit them now, they will be ready to go in the Fall. You know--I love winter too, but that is not always a very popular mindset where I live! I am in love with your yarn colors....
*smiles*

I think it makes sense. If you knit the heavy stuff now, you will be able to wear it when the time comes, and not wish it were on you and not on the needles. I've been craving light knitting now that we're getting into winter... perhaps I'm thinking about the summer and (still) lack of a summer cardigan!

I'm making knitted strawberries. I' plan on giving them to a friend for her birthday. She broke out in hives eating stawberries when we were kids but would never stop eating them. While the stawberries follow a summer theme they are made of Cascade 220 so I guess it's always wool knitting at my house.

I wouldn't want winter all year, but I love mild temperatures. I love rich colors like the ones you pick and I pair them with white in the summer and jeans in the winter. That works right? Sometimes it's good to be an oddball :) I'm working on a top for the fall...or a chilly summer day.

Oh, I'm a total oddball! I was just sitting out on the sunny patio, crocheting my big wool blanket. love Nora!

very funny, Andi ~ I'm with you on the off-season knits...did you see the what I finished today? you'd think it was October :)

That is so me! I love Fall and Winter but well, we're known for fog here.

I find myself knitting a bit of both. Small portable knits as well as sweaters. That way when the fall weather starts I will have sweaters to wear and give to the kiddos....but sometimes it is so sweltering that I just need something small to work on like mitts. I understand your love of winter....I love watching the Alaskan wilderness shows because of how cool the temps are ;)

I got some small crochet projects done. Now I have the garden and herbs to take care so no needle work for awhile.
You are ahead of time and it will wonderful to have those warm things to wear this Fall and Winter. It is OK to be an oddball!! We all can be! :) Hugs!

I must be an oddball too! I knit warm things in the summer months, so they are ready for the cooler weather.
It is the start of winter here, and it's very, very cold today. Blowing a gale and raining...perfect for snuggling up in winter woollies, and knitting more :)

I'm quite the oddball to I think. Although it's just my first year of serious knitting, I started knitting ribbed socks in a dark grey-reddish yarn for my fiancé. But, we obviously skipped Spring here in Belgium and it's still cold outside, so aybe he can still wear them ;-)

We must be a little similar. I was knitting bigger/heavier things through summer and now that we've hit winter, all I seem to be knitting is socks! (which granted are yummy warm, but small and lightweight to knit in comparison...!). Love that red, it looks so red and warm.

Omg it looks so RICH and warm I meant to say... haha :P

Ha! Yep, I'm an oddball too. I'm knitting sweaters and cardigans. I live in Texas, so it'll be a solid 5-6 months before I can wear any of my knits. Sigh.

Socks . . . always socks and a cowl - winter stuff - I love winter and am not a huge fan of heat. Although living in the PNW we are experiencing glorious weather - high 70-75 bright blue skies so I am definitely not complaining!

Maybe you're just preparing for the fall? I cast on for a pumpkin-coloured cardigan on the weekend in the midst of stifling humidity. So, no, not just you :)
Posted by: AngelaH | 06/03/2013 at 08:02 AM
Nope - I'm with you! I love winter/fall colors. I think it's something about the richness and depth of them. But - also like you, I like autumn and winter best. I also love stormy skies more that clear blue. I love cool and green and shady. I'm sure this means something in the universe but I'm not sure what.

Those yarns are gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing your finished socks and shawls :)
I'm enjoying the beginning of our winter season with some sweater knitting going on.

Seattle is so temperate that I can knit pretty much any project any time of the year. This weekend we went to the beach to enjoy the sunny weather and I ended up knitting wool socks for the Mr. while we were there - c'est la vie!
