Happy Sunday! I have been excited for this Sunday to come so that I can share with you some lovely new to me yarn.
Do you remember that I talked about upcoming yarn and product reviews in 2014? First up for the New Year is Mountain Meadow Wool. Can I just say, what a way to start?
Since I have been in the mood to knit with grey lately, that is the skein I decided to test out.
Folks, this yarn is beautifully rustic. I have always been drawn to rustic yarn because of how it feels when you knit with it. A rather "being one with nature kind of feeling", that one gets. Make sense?
This may not be a word, but I am sure that most of you will understand when I say that the "sproing" factor in this yarn is off the charts. This made up word leads to fantastic stitch definition. I wanted to knit something simple so that I could tell how the yarn would show of the stitches, therefore I knit the Lovely Ribbed Cowl pattern from Purl Soho. Now that I can see how the yarn takes to pattern, I would bet cables would really work.
While knitting with wooly yarns is a therapy for me, wearing them next to my skin is not always. Except in this case. After a long soak, this yarn bloomed into what feels very close to a baby's bum. Can you tell from the picture how soft it is, maybe not, but trust me.
Or don't trust me and judge for yourself. As I am offerring up a skein to one lucky person. The winner gets to choose from a lovely pink or saffron skein of Mountain Meadow Wool's Jackson DK weight. Each skein has a rather robust amount of yardage at 262 yards.
All you have to do is leave a comment telling me what you would like to knit with this beautiful yarn and your color preference. Please make sure that when my comments prompt you for an email address that you leave one. This giveaway is open to international readers as well.
Entries will need to be received before midnight (PST) on February 1st. A winner will be selected via random number generator on February 2nd, and be announced via a blog post.

Oooh, I'm not sure what I'd make exactly but that orange would be perfect to make something for my dad! A hat or cowl perhaps.

Yay new yarn to me as well. I love the story behind the company and it looks like something I'll have to put on my wish list.

Beautiful yarn. I totally understand about the "natural" feel and I love that. I would love the pink and it would be a selfish knit for me. A hat.

With a rustic yarn I always say cabled hats! There are at least 3 Brooklyn Tweed patterns I know off the top of my head that will be absolutely gorgeous in the saffron color.

yummy yarn! It looks so nice, I can see the rustic factor in it! I think I would knit a scrummy pair of mittens with the pink! Thanks Andi!

I would make a nice hat in saffron!

Lovely yarn, and I agree with you - 'sproing' is a factor that I too enjoy in rustic yarns. I will always choose more natural over processed. Which is why I would probably knit some lovely mitts for my niece...she wants everything in pink, and I owe her a hand knit. Thanks for sharing!

I really would love to Squish these yarns, they look lovely! I love both of these colors but pink is a bit more appealing to my skin tone than orange so- pink is the color of the beanie I would like to knit for my self(I have given away all the others I have knitted lately-).
Thanks mucho,
Chris

I'm very tempted by the saffron which would go perfectly with a teal skien I already have to start the colourwork mittens I have promised myself this year...

I'd make a cowl or a hat or a pair of fingerless mitts... oh, what to choose!!! I love both of the colors, too!

Oooooh, what great colors for POP! And I've been desperately in need of a new hat here in #Chiberia where it is set to get super cold again this week:)

I would go for the saffron, living here in Syracuse Orange territory. A beret to wear to the Carrier Dome would be just the thing to make.

My wrists give me a lot of trouble, so I'd knit some lovely wrist warmers. I think the saffron would be amazing!
Thanks so much for this nice giveaway. :)

I would make a cowl and hat for my six-year old, whose favorite color is orange ( so saffron would be my pick). I'm trying not to buy yarn this year (hubs out of work) for as long as possible :)

These yarns are gorgeous! I LOVE both colors. I'd absolutely make myself a squishy cowl in this yarn. It'd be perfect for a pop of color (and warmth!) on a cold, grey, winters day. What a generous offer <3
