Happy Sunday! I have been excited for this Sunday to come so that I can share with you some lovely new to me yarn.
Do you remember that I talked about upcoming yarn and product reviews in 2014? First up for the New Year is Mountain Meadow Wool. Can I just say, what a way to start?
Since I have been in the mood to knit with grey lately, that is the skein I decided to test out.
Folks, this yarn is beautifully rustic. I have always been drawn to rustic yarn because of how it feels when you knit with it. A rather "being one with nature kind of feeling", that one gets. Make sense?
This may not be a word, but I am sure that most of you will understand when I say that the "sproing" factor in this yarn is off the charts. This made up word leads to fantastic stitch definition. I wanted to knit something simple so that I could tell how the yarn would show of the stitches, therefore I knit the Lovely Ribbed Cowl pattern from Purl Soho. Now that I can see how the yarn takes to pattern, I would bet cables would really work.
While knitting with wooly yarns is a therapy for me, wearing them next to my skin is not always. Except in this case. After a long soak, this yarn bloomed into what feels very close to a baby's bum. Can you tell from the picture how soft it is, maybe not, but trust me.
Or don't trust me and judge for yourself. As I am offerring up a skein to one lucky person. The winner gets to choose from a lovely pink or saffron skein of Mountain Meadow Wool's Jackson DK weight. Each skein has a rather robust amount of yardage at 262 yards.
All you have to do is leave a comment telling me what you would like to knit with this beautiful yarn and your color preference. Please make sure that when my comments prompt you for an email address that you leave one. This giveaway is open to international readers as well.
Entries will need to be received before midnight (PST) on February 1st. A winner will be selected via random number generator on February 2nd, and be announced via a blog post.

Yum! I'd definitely use this orange to make a cowl and design the pattern myself with my chart minder tool

Add me to the list of people who would to knit with yarn. It looks beautiful and smoochy and love that it is named after some of my favorite places that I visited as a child.

I would use the pink and make an Intuitive hat designed by Julia Zahle. I watched the video, and Mountain Meadow Wool sounds like a company I'll put on my to-buy-from list!!

Ooh - that lovely orange is just crying out to be knitted into some cable socks for my little daughter to wear folded over the top of the new boots she got for Christmas.
Fingers crossed and how nice of you to share!

Oh, the saffron would make a lovely cowl for my daughter!

I could easily see myself making a hat for my hubby out of the orange. He works outside on the side of the road marking fiber routes and the orange would be a great visual so people can see him better! :)
Love your blog. Have a great day.

I'd love the saffron yarn, I'm a beginner knitter so it'll be something very basic :) Maybe a square for my knee blanket?

I would make a scarf.I like the teal color!

I would make orange fingerless mitts for my 21-year-old daughter, who has loved orange since she was a tiny child. Thanks for the chance to win such lovely yarn!!

It looks so squishy and soft. I'm picturing some cozy cabled fingerless mitts in saffron!

Oooh...I would make my first pair of cozy cozy socks with the black yarn :)

It must be because it's the dead of winter and I've been perusing through seed catalogs, dreaming of spring, but that pink looks just like it came out of a flower bed. A lovely cowl out of that yarn would make waiting for spring a little easier!

First time commenting; long time reader. In this day and age of twitter and instagram, I really appreciate and thank you for the time and thoughtfulness you put into writing your blog. You've introduced me to so many amazing indie yarns -and have (unknowingly) enabled my need to support these indie companies by purchasing their products. Mountain Meadow Wool will definitely be getting my business. If I were to win one of these gorgeous skeins of yarn (pink would be a perfect punch of color for our cold grey days in NYC)I would soon have a toasty warm Purlbee 'Lovely Ribbed Cowl' to keep me warm while waiting for the subway on the freezing cold outdoor platform in Astoria.

I'd love to knit a hat or wide headband with the pretty pink color that you have there. I'm very impressed with their wool operation and the incentives they are giving to farmers. I didn't know that our government was looking at alternatives via grants. Thanks for reviewing this product, the giveaway, and for educating me.

Hi! I would like the pink so that I can knit a pair of dk-weight socks for my best friend - http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fargyles

I love the saffron color-just the thing to chase away the winter weather-flu doldrums. I have a cowl pattern "dovetail" that would show off the stitches- and be a fantastic gift for my daughter's upcoming birthday. Fingers crossed.......

Love the pink! Would knit a headband!

My hands are always cold at my desk so I'd knit long fingerless mitts. I think I'd knit the one cable mitt pattern adjusting the stitches if necessary for fit. It would be my first project with a cable wider than one crossed stitch.
And to step out of my comfort zone is pick the Sadfron color.

This is such a great yarn! I made my husband a hat and he hardly ever takes it off of his head because it is so soft and warm. I'd love to try out that pink color to make myself a slouchy, soft hat.

The yarn being offered is beautiful! A pair of fingerless gloves would come in handy here in VA.

A close friend has had a rather difficult year and longs for bright colors to cheer her up. Her house is hard to heat and tends to be cold. A bright pink and soft cowl that can be pulled up around her ears would be fantastic! Been looking for a hot pink nice yarn for her. Your photo is my first sighting.
Thank you for sharing!

I would try the cowl in the pink. It would be my first knitted cowl, so why not make a lovely one.....

I love the Saffron and would knit up some nice, soft fingerless gloves on the long-side. Or I would try to match it with some lovely white wool in my stash to make a version of Purl Bee's Diagonal Scarf (http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2014/1/5/joelles-diagonal-pinstripe-scarf.html).
