Hello! Happy Sunday. How was your week?
The weather has been absolutely whacky here in Arizona. Now, I am fully aware that I am talking/typing to many of you who have experienced the craziest of weather happenings this year, so I am by no means complaining. I am just wondering what happened to Spring?
Case and point I pulled a very summery color for the Person Mystery Sock Yarn club that a brilliant member is hosting in the My Sister's Knitter Raverly group. Granted my fingers were crossed for this month's sock yarn to be a little brighter and fun...and I got it.
Pattern~Hermione's Everyday socks. Yarn Biscotte&Ce in color Melon d'eau.
As you can see, these fun watermelon socks are knitting up to be just the ticket. Quick side note, a lovely commenter asked about what needles I use for knitting socks. I have almost every brand in my arsenal and which one I use does depend on the fiber content of my yarn. Short answer is that my go-to needles are Hiya Hiyas.
Pattern~ Verdure Shawlette by Fluffy Fibers. Yarn~ Mellifera Yarn in color Petal.
More lighter summer colors and an unintentional pink party happened when I cast on a new shawl. Considering that pink is one of my favorite colors, I am sure it comes as no surprise that this sort of party would occur eventually. ;)
Really off topic but something I had to share with you guys because I know you will understand my despair...
my much loved and treasured Danmade coffee cup broke this week. I was gutted. :(
Okay back to the matter at hand. :) I had asked a question earlier about whether or not your knitting declined during the warmer months and I was pleased to hear that for most of you it does not. Now here is another question, does your yarn color selections change to represent the seasons? Is it difficult for you to knit with darker more Winter-like colors when the temps and humidity rise?
Alright I had a bit of a late start posting, now I must be off to begin my day.
I hope you have the best day today!
XO,
Andi
Pretty, pretty watermelon socks Andi. I love Hiya Hiya for sock knitting too, they feel just right in my hands.
I am so sorry about your mug, I do understand.
Good question about the yarn color, it's something I haven't really thought about, but I would say that no, my yarn colors don't change, but I think that has to do with mostly knitting Christmas gifts year round.
Hope your Sunday and your week is a great one!

great spring-y colors you have going there....and YES!!! Even the grey-lover here must grab something brighter occasionally this time of year. :)
Your poor, poor, cup....I do hope you glued those bits and are using it to hold dps, stitch holders, trinkets, etc. It is still MUCH too good, and has way too many memories to deep-six.
Hope you have a great week, Andi!

I'm currently also knitting some plain vanilla socks with Biscotte watermelon yarn! Lovely, n'est-ce pas? This is definitely a yarn for spring/summer!!!

I LOVE your blog and have been reading it for awhile now.It is the Best !! Knitting is my passion ( along with my animals, reading, cooking ). I've yet to make socks but think it's time I take the plunge and not be daunted by all the needles. I'm ordering the watermelon yarn ( just Love it !! ). Just one question - I've noticed that with most sock yarns there are over 400 yards. This one does not have quite as many ( just hoping there would not be a problem with not having enough yarn ). Thanks so much, Beth W

Yes, bright colors are definitely for summer! I love those socks, as usual, you always end up with such pretty things :)

Oh no! It is so sad what happened to your mug!you know what this means, now you need to select a new favorite:). I am sad to say that my knitting is non-existent in the summer months. But I guess thankfully for my knitting the summer is quite short around here.

ah, those watermelon colours are the best! I'm having a crazy attack of yarn envy ;-)

lovely watermelon yarn, and I love pink as well! I happen to be knitting a pink summer short-sleeve sweater (cotton and bamboo) - but more of a fuchsia.
I have broken my fair share of handmade ceramics items - those made by me or by others :-( If you haven't thrown it out yet, consider getting this: http://www.amazon.com/Kintsugi-Repair-Kit-Japanese-Lacquer/dp/B00H8YHO1E
It covers or fills the crack in a goldish-color. Not the same as new, but kind of cool, no?

I love the watermelon socks! What a fun color :) and I'm sorry about your cup, I hope you can get a new special one.
I love the Verdure shawlette! I just put it in my queue.
Right now I have 2 projects (and a few more coming) on my needles. One of them is definitely more 'summery' - it's the Hapa shawl knit up with madelinetosh cosmic wonder dust. The colorway is so joyful and fun! The 2nd project is kind of funny to knit right now. It's the Brooklyn Tweed 'bough' hat in a heavy hunter green wool. It's been in the 90s here (ugh) so it feels like a crazy project to be working on, but I love the pattern!
I hope you have a lovely week Andi!

As a huge coffee mug collector (some would say it is an addiction - but not me)!, I understand your pain at breaking your cup. Especially hard if they are not to be found anymore (like most of mine)...
I don't really think my color choices change for summer or winter. I find a color "speaks to me" to be a certain thing.
I love that yarn for your socks! So wish I could knit socks!!!

I do think the weather somehow influences my yarn colour choices, but often in a counterintuitive way. I often find myself knitting darker colours in summer and cheerful colours during winter. Completely non intentional though! :)

I love your sock yarn colors - perfect for summer!
I tend to continue whatever I am working on during summer. I am a teacher so summer is my time to finish WIPs, so it's whatever is on the needles. This summer I am hoping to start/finish my first sweater, which I want to wear to Rhinebeck. :-)

Oh such lovely knitting Andi!!! I totally know what you mean about the whacky weather. It poured in Sun City West Friday. I was at Jessica Knits yesterday and Tammy mentioned they only got wind and dirt. So sorry about your mug ... I feel your pain immensely.

So sad to see your poor cup in pieces, Andi : ((. As for seasonal shifts in colour, I do find I have a certain "need" to knit soft greys and gentle colour in the spring and summer and by autumn I'm ready to knit some deeper and darker shades. Your pink party does sound just the thing for this time of year - fun! XO

I choose my colors rather randomly. Sometimes it just depends on the week! Right now dark colors are right on my mind. But then again, when I see bright colors, I feel crazy inspired! Have a nice week!

That is the PERFECT pattern for that yarn. I'm a big fan of the Hiya Hiyas too.
I don't think I knit seasonally by color. Whatever comes out of the yarn bin is just fine.

Pink is perfect right now for summer. I pick colors based on what catches my eye and what I'm in the mood for.

I love how the watermelon yarn is coordinated with the project bag.
Broken mugs are the pits. I lost two this week. I am always whapping them on the edge of the counter when I unload the dishwasher. Drats.

Happy weekend Andi! Your socks are lovely and funnily enough I've cast on my first pair too with a similar bright colorway - I really must blog again. Instagram is much easier though. I think if you are a true knitter you knit all year long :)

Loving the pink!!! And what a great shawl choice for the yarn. Have you tried using ceramic glue? I've fixed a few mugs and dishes that way. A few aren't useable now, so I keep them on display. You should try it!

Hi Andi, this was, as always, lovely to read! Your watermelon sock is adorable. I hope your broken cup can be glued - such a bummer.
Have a lovely week!

Of course Caffeine Girl shares your grief over the broken coffee cup. I've lost a few to cracks and other misfortunes. Coffee cups can evoke strangely strong feelings.
I think that I have a bit of a tendency to be seasonal in my yarn choice. However, since I knit a lot of gifts for my family, their preferences are probably stronger.
Love that watermelon yarn!

Oh no! Your mug! I sure hope you can replace it somehow? Your pink party looks like a grand time--and how fortunate you pulled such a summery yarn out for your socks. I am not affected too much by seasonal colors---just working on some wips and many of them are quite fallish right now. Fall is my favorite season so that makes working on them fun along with satisfaction of finishing up some wips!

I love your pink yarns! So pretty and summery. And I'm very sorry to see your adorable mug is chipped :(
To answer the question, yes I most definitely shift my colors once warm summer weather hits. I find myself reaching for pale yellows, neutrals like white and taupe, and light blues. I also tend to gravitate towards linen and cotton fibers to give a nice lightweight vibe to my patterns during the summer months.
Thank you for the lovely post, as always!
