Happy Sunday! We made it to the weekend...that deserves a virtual fist pump. :)
This weekend has me staying indoors to avoid the heat advisories we have here in AZ. Since staying indoors translates to more knitting time for me, I'll take it.
Yesterday I didn't feel like streaming t.v., reading or watching movies, instead I listened to knitting podcasts. While cruising the podcasts that I normally listen to or watch, I wondered about you guys and podcasts.
Podcasts in general are a sort of saving grace for me. During my work commute I can catch up with some "friends" and their projects, learn about new yarns and patterns, or listen to interviews with designers. Here are some of my go-to audio and video podcasts.
Audio:
- Cast on~ Brenda's podcast was the first podcast I listened to. It reminded me of late night radio shows I listened to in my teen years. She talked about life in Wales, festivals, family life and knitting with such a calming demeanor that listening to her was also relaxing. You may have noticed that I refer to Brenda's show in the past tense, this is because she just recorded her last episode and she referred to it as an epic bind-off...which is fitting.
- Knitting Pipeline~ Paula is another podcaster with the perfect "radio voice". This podcasts come with vast knowledge of knitting techniques, designs, tips and tricks, and bird watching talk.
- Yarns at Yin Hoo~ I really enjoy this one because not only does Sara talk about knitting, but also food which is one of my favorite topics. She shares recipes, ideas how to integrate bulk bin foods into your menu, and ideas for exotic and unusual ingredients. All this fun chatter is in addition to sharing her experience living in a tea house.
- Doubleknit~ Another long time listen. Erin and Jessica live in my dream state and share their knitting expertise, projects, and happenings in a way that makes you feel like you are listening to your own personal knitting group chat. Bonus there is a house cat that will make an occasional feature by voicing his/her opinions.
- NH Knits~ It is possible that I could listen to Claire talk all day long. Her soothing voice combined with her Scottish accent, drives me to my knitting. This podcast also features wonderful interviews with farmers, dyers, and designers. There is a heavy focus on knitting organically.
Video:
- Little Bobbins Knits~ I adore Dani, so why not watch her. Dani's projects are projects that I gravitate towards, the yarns selections are those I would chose, and her overall demeanor is one that makes me want to be her best friend.
- Knitting In Circles~ A duo podcast that works. Aimee and Darren are a husband and wife team and both knit. The entertainment comes in the form of great projects, Aimee helping Darren with questions about knitting, travel talk and cat talk, as well as chat about life in Mississippi.
Here is were I have to cut the list short. Video podcasting has become big lately, made evident with my Youtube subscription list. I could sit here and list many more but that would be rather cumbersome for you all to read.
So now I am turning to you to see what are your favorite knitting podcasts? Do you prefer audio or video? What do you look for in a podcast? Do tell, I always love hearing about you all.
Have the best day today,
XO
Andi
I having been heading out early to beat the heat and then hibernating the rest of the day. I had planned to work in my fall garden this weekend, but decided to push it off a little bit, the beach is so much better ;)
I don't really listen to podcast, at least not for a few years now, but now that I've read your list I think that is about to change.
Happy knitting dear friend.

I mostly listen to Never Not Knitting. I have a hard time squeezing in more, but I would like to. Someday...

The only video podcast I would watch is Knitting Knirvana's. I generally don't like watching video ones because I can't knit and watch at the same time. I haven't tried out any audio ones though. My girls are usually watching TV while I'm on the laptop. Maybe when they're back in school.

Another awesome post Andi :) I will be honest and say that I've never listened to a knitting podcast before! But now I feel motivated to go listen to these, especially the Yarns at Yin Hoo podcast. How lucky she is to live in a teahouse!
I hope you are having a great weekend Andi :)

What a happy coincidence for me!!! Just this week I started searching podcasts, trying to find a few to subscribe to. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing your list of favourite podcasts! To be honest I'm not really following any podcasts but have been meaning to get into it. But where to begin? So this list is a great starting point!

I;ve been searching for podcasts that are great ! Thanks I'll try them all

I only listen to two podcasts so far (and I think I couldn't find the time for more) My favourite is PomCast from the knitting magazine Pompom Quarterly. I love Sophie and Lydia, they feel like young hip friends. The other one I listen to is Woolful. I love hearing from different people who work with fiber in different ways.

My favourite video podcasts are Truly Myrtle and Stitched Together. I can't focus on audio for some reason so it's always great to find new video podcasts.

I haven't listened to podcasts in years and really don't know why I don't any more. Maybe I just don't take the time to listen like I should. Love projects you have on the needles ... love that sock!

Oh I'm so glad you casted on your lovely strawberry milk yarn! Vanilla socks are the best when the yarn's beauty speaks by itself.
I'm not really listening to podcasts as my commuting time is so short, and when at home, I never think about podcasts, but I should!

I have only just starting watching knitting podcasts and I'm finding them relaxing and informative. Will try again with just audio not sure why I can't get into them maybe because I 'm a visual sort of person?
Favourites are Truly Murtle I could listen to Libby all day plus she sews as well. Homespun house and Knitting Den. Thanks for the list above it's great to have reference . Cheers

I look forward to podcasts by Susan B Anderson. I have listened to others and I do enjoy them. I t is interesting seeing the different projects, the yarn used and colour selections and, of course, the knitting project bags.
Also I look forward to my Sunday evening read of "My Sister's Knitter".

I am a visual learner, so I can't focus 100% on audio podcasts. I do like them, however, and I appreciate your extensive list!
I love your coffee mug at the beginning of your post!

I prefer audio to video podcasts as they are portable. I can listen at the gym and while cleaning. I listen to The Yarniacs, Knitting Pipeline, Craftlit (more lit than craft but excellent), and Teaching Your Brain to Knit. I do watch Susan B. Anderson's video cast when time allows. The socks from the pink yarn are going to be lovely.

I've never listened to podcasts. I'll have to give them a try. Again, I'm so glad I found your blog.

Podcasts are a revelation, aren't they? I listen to a ton, but I think my favourite knitting one is the Pomcast, from Pom Pom Quarterly. It only comes out once a month, but it's a ton of fun and always excellent.
I'll have to check out some of the ones you've listed here. Yay for new things to listen to as I knit :)

Hi Andi - Susan B Anderson is a definite favourite of mine as is Little Bobbins. Another good one is Kristen at Voolenvine Yarns (Yarngasm). There just aren't enough hours in the day!!! xxx ps I just checked out Cast On and there does appear to be a podcast for July this year - maybe she's podcasting again?

I don't listen to the radio any more when I am in the car by myself. I always have a podcast on to listen to. I love to hear what others are knitting on and with what yarn. It has been a great way to find new patterns to try out.
I watch video casts on the weekends when there isn't good ballgame on to watch.

You know, I cannot bear to listen to podcasts. I get really bored before I'm halfway through and end up wandering off!! I think it relates to what kind of learner you are (visual, audio or kinetic being the main three). I am obviously not an audio learner! Interesting that I'm not the only one to comment on that.
We had rain all weekend which was wonderful as I got to stay inside and knit. I can understand the staying inside happiness!

whew, that's one way to beat the hot weather- stay inside and knit! I actually don't follow any podcasts at all- I'm not an auditory person, so I find just listening to something sort of challenging- my mind wanders off. As for the videos, I don't know, perhaps I haven't found the right one... I'm not much for watching videos unless I'm trying to learn a specific technique! But we're all different in the ways we like to get our information, I bet there are plenty of people who prefer to listen or watch instead of reading.

Great post, I adore the shawl you are working on. Its is stunning. I don't listen or follow many podcasts. Okay, so I follow just one. :-) Andre Sue Knits. Mainly to see what she has been up to, but also to see her family, pets, house, and the fun they have making the podcast.
I guess I am "old-school" and still read blogs. :-)

I really prefer audio and not video podcasts. Not sure why, but that's how I roll!
