Hello loves and happy Sunday! Feels like it has been a while since we chatted and for good reason we had a wonderful sock series posts. I really want to take a moment to thank all the wonderful guests Staci, Jesse and Mina. It was such a treat to be able to learn more about socks, be inspired by gorgeous photos and get some new ideas. In addition thank you for all who commented!
Normally we chat about my months of loves, but instead this month I plan on closing out with a giveaway? How does that sound? :) We will get to that in a bit. First how about some knit happenings.
Summer months have caused my knitting to slow down a smidge. For some reason during these warmer months that been accompanied with record breaking temps, I have been reaching for the tea and a good book more often.
Pattern~ Pebbles by Mina Phillips Yarn~ AndreSueKnits in the color Puddle Jumper
My go-to Summer knitting projects are getting some love and of course they are socks. Why of course? Primarily for reasons we all know, portability and the fact that no warm wool is sitting on my lap.
Wonderful mini skein and tea swap packages received from lovely international friends! Which resulted in some delicious new to me teas being samples and coveted.
Here is the only problem with swaps where you receive teas that you can't get in the US...you can't get them in the US. I am going to put this out there and see if any of my overseas friends can help. I am obsessed with the Taylors of Harrogate Rose Lemonade Infusion and would like to know if someone would be interested in a tea swap with me? Let me know. :)
Enough rambling about my happenings, how about a giveaway? In honor of this month's Sock Series I have some treats for one lucky person.
Ebook ~Beyond Vanilla Socks Part 1 by Mina Phillips.
A skein of Opal Smile sock yarn, The Sock Ruler, Ebook Beyond Vanilla Socks and Tuft Woolens Hand Balm in the scent Royal Apiary. I will also be throwing in few extra goodies not pictured here.
If you would like to be entered in this giveaway leave a comment below telling me your favorite thing about knitting socks. This giveaway is open world-wide and will close July 16th at midnight PST. The winner will be drawn and selected via random number generator on July 17th.
Sending you all much love and wishing you the best day today!
XO,
Andi
One of the reasons I started knitting again after a long, long hiatus was so that I could learn to knit socks. Eight years later, they are still my favorite thing to knit, both for me and as gifts. Knitting the heel is like magic, and amazes me every time I finish one.

The stories of my German great grandmother's sock knitting, during WWII, intrigued and challenged me. How did she do this during such a stressful time? No pattern, just needles quietly clicking in the dark. With the yarn and needles in a project bag, I find myself knitting during times of stress and marvelling at the outcome of a pair of hand-knitted socks. I found a understanding and a connection to my past.

The thing I love best about knitting socks is turning the heel. It's like magic every time! Also, *wearing* handknit socks when I'm done!

What's NOT to love about sock knitting?!? I love that it's portable, small in size and perfect for knitting in warmer months. I adore all the fabulous sock yarns available and can spend hours browsing and shopping but what brings me the most joy is gifting a pair of socks and the delight it brings to the recipient.

The thing I love most about knitting socks is gifting them. I pick a special yarn for that "certain" someone...pattern based on their personality, and think loving thoughts the whole time I'm knitting. Then the best part is seeing their face when they open them and they say " these are great...can you make me some more?"

Wow, Andi! What a lovely giveaway you have planned. My favorite thing about sock knitting is its portability - I love to sprinkle bits of knitting around throughout the course of my day. When I have a project tucked in my bag I can sneak in a stitch or several (in long lines, during lunch breaks, at doctor's offices), wherever I find myself with a few free moments.

My favorite thing about knitting socks is how beautiful and cushy they are to wear. :)

Knitting socks allow you to try a new pattern that you might not want to commit a whole sweater to. They're portable, useful; everybody knows hand knit socks are "the bomb". Plus the fact that there's just so much gorgeous sock yarn out there doesn't hurt either. Thanks Andi - Love, Love, Love your blog; you've opened my eyes (and wallet) to some dyers and yarn I never would have found without you.

I love all the yarn choices, the portability, and the way homemade socks feel!

Socks! I love handknit socks. I love making baby socks and socks for women but socks for men are not my favorite project. The foot of a man is so large! It seems you never finish the foot! My husband still pesters me about finishing the matching sock of a sock I knit for him years ago!
I also love the beautiful colors of the socks. The various yarn creations unfold into the most beautiful colors. The portability of the project is something I love as well.
Finally, the tiny needles, used for socks, are soothing to hold and to use. I haven't made a pair of socks in a while, but now, I am motivating myself to do so!
You are offering a lovely and generous prize! Thank you1

As a newly addicted sock knitter, I'd say my favourite thing about knitting socks is trying them on and finding...they actually fit! The relief is beyond words!

I love knitting socks because it's small size allows me try out all kinds and colors of yarn and different stitch patterns.

What a really nice giveaway!! I have knit a couple of pairs of socks before and they turned out alright, and now I'm giving it another go and it's working out better than before. I'm learning some new things and catching onto the process better this time around. I really enjoy reading your words and thoughts on Sunday mornings, thank you and keep it coming!!

I love sock knitting because it's a quick knit for one. The best thing is giving socks to someone who looks confused that you would knit socks!! But then they're back and wondering if you might want to make them another pair. That's the best!

Socks are so portable!!!

Oh, hands down my favorite thing about knitting socks is the amazing magic of turning a heel. After all these years I still marvel at it.

I just love knitting socks. I rarely make a patterned sock, just a plain vanilla socks. It is so calming to just be able to knit knit knit and have something beautiful to be able to wear.

My favourite things about knitting socks: portability (of course!), I can go with the zaniest of colours and never worry, the more wild the better! Handmade knit socks feel like cushions on my feet, so they are ever so enjoyable to wear after all the knitting work is done.

This question stumped me for a little bit, and I really had to stop and reflect on why I love knitting socks so much. I started knitting socks one year ago in May and have always had a pair on the needles since. The word that comes to mind is magic. Knitting socks is just so magical, knitting any item is pretty impressive, but there is something about socks in particular. You can see it in the curious awe non-knitters have when they find out you are making socks, just the most basic item to cover your feet, and it is mind boggling. That is how I feel every time I finish another pair of socks and look at my slowly growing pile - utter awe at the simplicity and complexity that goes into these items, and decide it could only be magic.

I love sock knitting for all of the reasons already listed. Portability, fun yarn, great gifts... I was afraid to knit socks - they looked really complicated what with double pointed needles and the scary "turning of the heel!" Once the fear was conquered - thanks to a lovely owner of a local yarn store who offered a class (and a few individual calming sessions) - I now knit socks all the time, with a memorized pattern! I enjoy your blog Andi; it is part of my Sunday routine!

My favorite thing is that most sock patterns can be converted to ankle socks! Living in Southern California it is almost never cold enough for full length knit socks, so I love the easy conversion.
Also, so interested in that tea!!
❤️❤️

I'm just learning to knit socks but I'm amazed at the variety of patterns and yarns - you can make anything from plain utilitarian socks to fancy colorful ones and everything in between.

Love my Sunday mornings - sock knitting & your lovely posts. My favorite thing about knitting socks is the mystery of how the yarn any yarn knits up! Just amazing to me! And gotta love the fit over store bought! Thanks so much for your inspiration!

I think it's how quickly you can get from casting on to the finished project. And there's something really cute in those teeny tiny stitches (I practically always knit my socks on 2.25mm needles)
